Travel advice for Wednesday 5 June

Portsmouth is hosting the international commemorations for D-Day 75, organised by the Ministry of Defence on behalf of HM Government, on Wednesday 5 June.

We are anticipating a significant number of visitors to the city on this day and are encouraging visitors to use the D-Day 75 Park and Ride, trains or buses if they wish to travel to this event.

However we expect a significant number of people will still drive into the city on this day creating congestion on the roads, especially during the morning and evening rush hour.

So please help us to minimise any disruption on 5 June and follow this advice:

  • plan your journeys into and around the city
  • allow extra time for journeys  - especially if you are taking or are involved in exams
  • avoid driving to or around the city wherever possible
  • if you are travelling locally, walk, cycle or scoot to school
  • if you are travelling from further afield and usually drive, consider alternative ways of travel such using the train, bus or Portsmouth Park and Ride
  • if you are planning to go to the events on the seafront after school, please don't drive there - consider walking or cycling instead

There will be some changes to the Hovercraft service on 5 June and also restrictions in the car park opposite the Hovercraft terminal from 3 June.
